Happy 450th birthday, Shakespeare!

Wed, 04/23/2014 - 11:39 -- Kelly Bradish

Happy 450th birthday, William Shakespeare!

Shakespeare's birthday is typically observed on April 23. The playwright's actual birthdate is unknown, although it was sometime around this date in 1564.

His date of death is April 23, 1616, which means that, if the estimated birthdate is correct, Shakespeare died on his birthday.

In honor of The Bard, take a moment to learn a little more about Shakespeare:

>> Browse just a few of the items in our collection, including DVDs, on our Pinterest board.

>> Watch videos about The Bard and read more about his life on

>> Learn more about the playwright from the experts! Frequently asked questions about Shakespeare are answered by the Folger Library and also with short video clips by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

Celebrate National Library Week!

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 13:01 -- Kelly Bradish

We're celebrating National Library Week!

This is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. During National Library Week, communities celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and promote library use and support. All types of libraries -- school, public, academic and special -- participate.

We love our campus Library, and we hope you do, too. Here are a few ways you can join us in this celebration:

  • Pick up a button to show your support for libraries at the circulation desk on the ground floor.
  • If you participated in a READ photo shoot, pick up your print copy at the reference/circulation desk! If you were in a group photo, get your copy from your contact person.
  • Watch for READ photos to be posted this week! Update: READ pics are now posted on our Facebook page.
  • Encourage your friends to follow us! We're FSUPCTCLib on Twitter and Facebook, and MusickLibrary on Pinterest.
