Database news: LexisNexis updates

Tue, 01/28/2014 - 10:25 -- Kelly Bradish

Those of you who use LexisNexis have probably noticed that this database was recently redesigned.

We've updated our Ask Us entry about LexisNexis with tips, but wanted to share some here as well.

Specifically, we have found that the "Search by content type" feature (shown below) can be helpful in searching for specific items.

This video and the LexisNexis Getting Started Guide also provide step-by-step instructions for whatever you may be researching. Please Ask Us if you have any questions!

ARTstor is a digital library offering collections of images in a wide range of subject areas, including these and more:

Some recent updates made by ARTstor:

  • image groups of up to 150 images can now be exported as PowerPoint presentations

The campus community can access ARTstor; as with other Library databases, if you're on an off-campus computer, you'll be asked for your UCA and password.

Before you get started, check out these instructions about how to download and work with images, including exporting to PowerPoint. Tips on searching for images are available here as well.

Ask Us: Get help via chat, text, more

Wed, 01/22/2014 - 12:10 -- Kelly Bradish

Ask Us ChatDon't forget that help from a librarian is just a few clicks away, even if you're not on campus! Our live chat ("Ask a Librarian") has several helpful features.

You can find frequently asked questions, our live chat window, and library contact information on the Ask Us page.

Now, when you start a chat, you can submit your question and then enter your name or remain anonymous. You'll see a note announcing when the librarian has joined, along with his or her name.

Also, when you Ask Us for help, you can email yourself a copy of the chat. Click on the envelope icon in the chat window to enter your email address and send.

Finally, when the chat is complete and the librarian has ended the session, you will have the opportunity to rate the help you received. We hope you will use this feature so that we can continue to improve our services!

You can also reach us by phone, text, email and in person, so please let us know if you have any questions. As always, we're happy to assist you.
