International Education Week 2012

International Education Week 2012 begins Monday, Nov. 12. A lot of interesting learning opportunities are planned!

Here's the schedule:

Monday, 7 to 8:30 p.m.: Movie screening - International film from Chad, “Un Homme Qui Crie (A Screaming Man)” by Mahamat-Saleh Huroun at MMA in the Library

Tuesday, 12:30 p.m.: International Flag Raising Ceremony at Bryant Street campus entrance (weather permitting)

Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: International Exhibition at Falcon Center Gym 1 with cultural displays, study abroad information, a dance demonstration and more.

Wednesday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: International Poetry Night in MMA in the Library. International poems will be read in native languages and English translation.

Thursday, 12:30 to 1 p.m.: Global Forum in Falcon Center Conference Room 1 moderated by Dr. Erin Hippolyte, Study Abroad Program Coordinator.

Election Day: History and info

'Our Town' on stage at Wallman

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts and Masquers theatre group present “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8, 9 and 10 at Wallman Hall Theatre.

Tickets are $13 for general admission and free for Fairmont State and Pierpont Community & Technical College students with their student ID.

Writers: It's time for NaNoWriMo!

For everyone who's ever said someday, they might write a book, here's some motivation: November is National Novel Writing Month!

Never heard of the NaNoWriMo challenge? The official site has all the details. Plus, you can follow on Twitter!

The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Fire up the laptop and get the coffee ready!

Are you participating, or have you taken part in the past? Is it easier or tougher than you thought?

Frankenstein film: New date!

The viewing of "The Bride of Frankenstein" has been rescheduled for  6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 6 in MMA here at the Library.

Whether you're working on a class project or just want to know more about this year's Common Reader, make sure you check out our LibGuide of resources. You'll find links to books and movies in our collection, streaming video adaptations, educational films and lots of other info.

Our lobby display case also has a Frankenstein theme -- take a look at the monster's "family tree" as if it were hanging in the Shelley home.
