FLIRT
: Fairmont Library Internet Research Tutorial
This tutorial has been designed specific for Fairmont State, the library,
and it’s resources. Like TILT above, this interactive tutorial includes:
- An overview defining information literacy and addressing
some common misconception about the Internet
- Module One covering different sources of information,
including where to find them and how to choose the best ones for
your research
- Module Two covering skills for effective searching library
databases and the Web, including choosing and combining terms
- Modules Three covering criteria for assessing the credibility
of sources, as well as how to cite print and online information
- Database tutorials
- Quizzes are not included.
TILT
: Texas Information Literacy Tutorial
TILT is an educational Web site designed to introduce first-year students
to research sources and skills. The tutorial offers an introduction
and three modules which you can complete in any order. Each should
take you approximately 30 minutes. This tutorial includes:
- An overview defining information literacy and addressing
some common misconception about the Internet
- Module One covering different sources of information,
including where to find them and how to choose the best ones for
your research
- Module Two covering skills for effective searching library
databases and the Web, including choosing and combining terms
- Modules Three covering criteria for assessing the credibility
of sources, as well as how to cite print and online information
- Quizzes are included with each module.
