Constitution Day: Multimedia

After several failed attempts at creating a government, a 1787 convention is called to draft a new legal system for the United States. This new Constitution provides for increased federal authority while still protecting the basic rights of its citizens.

Congress unanimously elects George Washington to become the first President of the United States. Originally, the role of President is designed to carry out the decisions of Congress.

During the ratifying conventions, many states express concern that the new Constitution does not contain a Bill of Rights.
