During Banned Books Week (Sept. 26 – Oct. 2, 2021,) libraries, their users, and readers everywhere are invited to celebrate and exercise their freedom to read.  Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores, and libraries.  A number of organizations came together to start Banned Books Week, both to highlight the fact that literature was being banned, and to celebrate the freedom to read.

On the ground floor of the Ruth Ann Musick Library, we are displaying some classic books that have been challenged and/or banned in the past.
