WV Earth Day 2021: Fairmont State Creative Sustainability

Website

Creative Sustainability Council

The Council originally planned an Earth Day event on campus, but given current circumstances the event has been relocated to a virtual space. Organizations, departments, and universities from all over the state have teamed with the Creative Sustainability Council to construct a virtual statewide Earth Day celebration.

Creative Sustainability Council is an interdisciplinary group of Fairmont State students, faculty and staff members who are collaborating actively with members of the local community, Marion County Solid Waste Authority, and partners from other universities on student-led sustainability projects and grant proposals.

The Abelina Suarez professorship, awarded to Dr. Erica Harvey in the spring of 2018, provides a platform and support for the work of the Creative Sustainability Council.

Crayola Marker Recycling

The Crayola ColorCycle program was launched in 2013 in hopes to make recycling available for markers by turning old markers into liquid fuel.  Last year the Creative Sustainability Council at Fairmont State University placed drop-off boxes in Jaynes Hall, Hunt Hall, and in the Engineering Technology Building for collection.  With cooperation from students and staff, the Creative Sustainability Council recycled 8.5lbs of markers.
