BSN Writing Tutorial: Using APA

This guide is intended to assist the BSN student with writing throughout the program.

Writing in APA Style

Different disciplines use different writing styles.  Nursing typically uses APA (or the American Psychological Association) as their writing style.  APA is different from the MLA style that you have probably learned in your written English courses.  As a requirement of the BSN program, you will need to purchase the APA manual.  The manual will provide in-depth answers on how to correctly use APA format in your writing.  In addition to this manual, there are websites to help you with writing in APA format.  Two such web-links can be found below.  The web-links are not intended to replace the APA manual, but rather to act as supplemental guides.
