During the winter break, our office worked to create some new initiatives to help student retention. The themes of 2017 are visibility and public services announcements. We want to make our office more known to students as well as getting the information (deadlines, tips, etc.) to them in public matter (think Facebook Live and more Campus pop-ups at class changes). Some of the new initiatives include:
Students will be invited/reminded to stop in our office to discuss any issues they may be having. If your student is having issues, please encourage them to visit us during this event or any time!
Pop-Up Campaigns (Begin week of March 6)
At pivotal points in the semester (such as Midterm, Finals and Registrations periods), our staff strategically appear on campus to hand out candy and get a message out to the masses of students
Majors Marketplace Fair (March 28)
For both undeclared students and those who wish to change majors. If your student feels they are not on the right path, please encourage them to visit the Marketplace. More details to come in the March e-Newsletter.
FSU First Year Experience Passport Program-- Spring Program Added!
Programs geared toward first year students to help them transition well to campus. By completing an event in each outcome category students learn essential skills necessary to succeed. Your student may have participated in the Fall FYE Passport Program if they were enrolled in a Freshmen Seminar course. This term's program continues their learning and grows their sense of belonging to FSU. Please see full listing of activities on the left or see the link below for a printable calendar. Families of upperclassmen: these events are not only for our first year students! Encourage your upperclassmen attend as well!
Our office will work more closely with Athletics to ensure Athlete student retention.
Students who make 3.5 or higher midterm will be sent an email congratulating them on their effort and offer our services to them.
In 2017, we are stepping up our efforts on social media! We will be holding LIVE events, contests, weeks of tips, etc. We are trying to reach students where they find information. To get our posts and updates, follow us on the platforms below:

A new semester, a new beginning! One of the best ways for your student to stay on track this semester is by following the Registrar Calendar. It contains all of the important dates regarding registration, exams and grades posting. While the dates are listed to the left, we have included a link below for you to be able view and print the calendar. We find that many student issues are caused by simply missing a deadline so if you can help keep them on track with the calendar it would help them tremendously.
The Brickstreet Foundation - Career Development Center will be hosting its annual job fair open to all students and the community on Tuesday, February 14th from 9-2pm in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center on FSU’s main campus. Last year over 80 employers attended the event from a large variety of industries. This is a great opportunity for students to network with potential employers and gather information directly from recruiters.
The Career Development Center will be hosting workshops and offering special information to help coach students in getting the most out of a job fair event. As always, the staff of the Career Development Center offer career coaching in resume building, job search techniques, interviewing skills, etc. Contact them for more information at 304-367-4214.
