CLOUD AND INSTALLABLE SOFTWARE OPTIONS

•  CONNECTING TO THE FAIRMONT STATE CLOUD FOR SPSS ACCESS

1. Read the instructions at https://www.fairmontstate.edu/it/tech-commons/cloud

2. Go to  https://cloud.fairmontstate.edu/ - you may want to open this in a new tab/window so you can refer back to the instructions from step 1.

3. It is recommended that you use the “Install VMware” option. You may opt for the “HTML” access, but if you run into problems, use the “Install VMware option”.

4. Regardless of which option you choose, you will ultimately be logged into a cloud computer with its own desktop.

5. You can then click the Windows button > select all programs > click IBM SPSS Statistics folder > select IBM SPSS Statistics

6. You should then be able to run SPSS. However, file access/saving is tricky because anything saved in the cloud computer will be deleted when you sign out.

7. It is recommended that you use OneDrive to save and transfer data files

7a. If you want to use an existing file, upload it into OneDrive before logging into the cloud computer (i.e., on your normal desktop).

7b. After logging into the cloud, you can then access OneDrive in a web browser as you normally would (it is recommended that you leave the browser open throughout your session).

7c. Download a copy of the file(s) you want to use onto the cloud computer (I recommend to the desktop).

7d. BEFORE you log off of the cloud computer, you will need to save any changes made on the downloaded copy, then upload it back into OneDrive (I recommend dragging it from the desktop and dropping it into a OneDrive folder in the web browser – should be open already from step 7b).
