CLOUD AND INSTALLABLE SOFTWARE OPTIONS

CONNECTING TO THE FAIRMONT STATE CLOUD FOR SPSS ACCESS

1. If you will be using an existing SPSS file, upload it into OneDrive before proceeding to step 2 (skip step 1 if you are creating a new SPSS file). 

2. Open a standard updated browser on a laptop or desktop, and go to  https://cloud.fairmontstate.edu/ .

3.Select the “VMWare Horizon HTML access” option.

4. Make sure FAIRMONTSTATE is showing in the dropdown menu (3rd row down), then login using your UCA credentials.

5. If given options, select the Student icon. Ultimately a virtual computer should begin loading in your internet browser window. 

6. Allow anything requested by popups and allow Fullscreen. If these options do not pop up:

  • Click the folder tab on the left of the screen
  • Select the top, rightmost icon (looks like a bulleted list) to open a menu
  • Click "Fullscreen"

7. If you uploaded a file in step 1, you need to download a copy to the virtual machine (skip these steps if you are creating a new file).

  • Open OneDrive in a web browser as you normally would (it is recommended that you leave the browser open throughout your session so you can upload any updated files after making changes in SPSS)
  •  Find the previously saved file in your Onedrive folder, then download a copy to the "Desktop" folder

8. Click the Windows button > select all programs > click IBM SPSS Statistics folder > select IBM SPSS Statistics 21

9. SPSS will open and you can choose to:

  • type in new data (if you are creating a new file).
  • 'Open an existing data source' if you completed steps 1 and 7. 

10. After completing any SPSS activities and BEFORE you log off of the cloud computer, you will need to save the new file (to desktop) or save any changes made to the previously downloaded copy, then upload the newest version of the file into OneDrive.
