ENGL1102 History Projects: Householder

Better get this done before finals

Introduction

Throughout the years Fairmont State University has had a strong and competitive swim team that for generations has won multiple titles as well as had incredible swimmers and coaches that went above and beyond the Falcon values and Soared over the competition.

Swimmers

The main talking point when it comes to it all is the swimmers, as many have been hard working and pushed past those around them to give it their all no matter what. Heres a few examples.

Eileen Luigard Zatraz swam for Fairmont state from 1982 to 1986, during this time she became the first woman in fairmont state history to recieve the NAIA National Champion title which she recieved by winning the 200 fly in 1986.

Kristy Renfro- Menker who swam from 1996 to 2000, Kristy earned all american honors ten times while swimming for Fairmont state, as well as receiving first team All-American five times!

Jeff Nau swam from 1974 to 1977, he achieved six individual conference titles while he swam at this school, and led the team to THREE WVIAC titles during his time swimming here.

Coaches

Although many have been here none have been more prevalent than the main coach Steve Mahaney, who is the only swim coach in Fairmont state history to recieve the NAIA Coach of the year in 1977!

championships

Although it proved to be a bit difficult to find, there are pictures in the Feaster center that show the years of the most prevalent championship winners of that specific year, for swim, the years I found were 1959, 1975, and 1976. below are some pictures I took of the photoshoot they had!
