Pottery was first offered at Fairmont State in the mid-late 1970's. The Mound first discusses pottery in the year of 1975, but is published in the year 1976.
During my research I interviewed the old pottery teacher Jeff Greenham, who helped me discover the dates of the first kilns. The pottery teacher at the moment is Elizabeth Urse who had Jeff Greenham as her pottery teacher.
Pottery has changed a little bit since it has first been offered at Fairmont State University. When pottery was first offered students had to pass student and faculty review boards, especially if they were selling their pieces. Today in pottery that doesn't happen, instead the pottery teacher meets with each student individually at the end of the year and discusses all the work and grading at that time.
