Better get this done before finals

Caps and Gowns through Fairmont History

Fairmont States colors are Maroon and White. Today, the caps and gowns are Maroon. However, through our 100-year history, they have changed just like the venues and the direction of commencement. When you graduate, Fairmont State allows students to wear their club ropes or any other ropes they have earned while attending Fairmont State. Commencement is a big deal and students should feel proud of graduating from College. This is a life-changing event as they move into their start of the "real world". On this page, I will be going over the differences between the Cap and Gowns throughout the years at Fairmont.

Where graduation is held is dependent on the weather. Sometimes commencement is held outside if the weather is nice. Seating for graduation is limited however, anyone can come. There are still some covid safety orders in place. If it is held inside then it will be in the gym.

History behind caps and gowns

Caps and Gowns for graduation are not a new concept. Caps and Gowns have been around since the 11th Century. Caps and Gowns are meant to symbolize prestige and higher knowledge. They were meant to differentiate the intelligent people that graduated from college and regular people back in the day.

It looks like there are no differences between the 3 graduations. There are so many years between all of these photos
